Hi All
Today we went to Granite Falls along the Shelburne
River. An interesting trip for photographs.
The area is very acidic, granite area. Lots of bogs
with most pines being yellowish green from lack of
nitrogen.
One interesting rock we saw was a granite rock, of
course, crowned with 12 - 15 lady slippers in full
bloom. A nice garden it was. The Lady Slippers were
grown in decaying humus on top of the rock. Leaves,
pine needles and so on. There was a few other plants
growning there as well. Other rocks had a few Lady's
Slippers also but not so many. I didn't see any
growing on the forest floor.
Dragon Flies were very plentiful on the way there but
none there, or very few at least. When we came back in
the evening, they were again plentiful as we drove
along. Prehaps the water is too acid there for them.
Does anyone know of their ph requirements?
We fished for a little while and caught a good number
of yellow perch. Some up to 25 cms, some were ready to
spawn and were like footballs others had spawned and
were like pencils.
Lots of bees out on the bog with the various flowers
and a good number of Tiger Swallowtails flying around.
Always a fine spot to visit.
Enjoy the spring
Paul
