I spent some time walking my local patch today since I live within my MBBA
square. My rather late start resulted in the birding being rather slow and
as the temperature rose the appearance of some other flying creatures caught
my attention.

Butterflies seen:
Cabbage white - numerous
Clouded Sulphur
Dusky Dreamywing - none of my illustrations really do this one justice
Canadian Tiger Swallowtail - my first of the year

Odonates:
White Corporal (f)
Four-spotted Skimmer
Eastern Forktail

Unknown damsel: This one was fairly large, was not a spreadwing or a bluet
and seemed to have some iridescence to the body. The wings were clear. It
most resembled a Superb Jewelwing but it seems rather early for this one and
I see from the checklist that this species is rare in NS. Anyone out there
with some other possibilities? I was in a location where Ebony Jewelwings
are abundant in season but none of these beauties was present.

Cheers,

Bob McDonald
