Index of Subjects

Great photo, Hans. This is a Springtime Darner (Basiaeschna janata). The thoracic stripes are usually diagnostic but the upper one is flared at one end, not straight as the guides indicate. Also both stripes appear to be outlined narrowly in black (should be no black outline). Note the brown tinge to the wings over the rock and the dark areas at the base of the wings, both good marks of this species. The abdominal markings are good for the Springtime too.
Angus

At 06:40 PM 6/2/2007, you wrote:

Thanks Jim and Paul for snake and fish ID help,

If we can ID this dragonfly from today I'll have a hat trick!

Hans

 http://www.hanstoom.com/Highlights/Highlights19.html
________________________________________________________________________________________________
When viewing images tap F11 or View Full Screen and use the navigation buttons on my website
________________________________________________________________________________________________
Hans Toom
Portuguese Cove, Nova Scotia, Canada
E-mail: htoom@hfx.eastlink.ca
Migration Count: http://hanstoom.com/NAMC/Index.html
Nature Website: http://hanstoom.com
________________________________________________________________________________________________
