May 23, 2007 - About 64+ CHIMNEY SWIFTS counted by Ted Wolkowski et al. at
Robie Tufts Nature Centre at dusk -- most swifts went into chimney at about
9 p.m. (Sunset 8:44), and it was nice that there were perhaps 12 or more
people at the chimney site to see the gathering and descent to roost for the
night -- observations from 7:45 to 9:05 p.m. (Sunset 8:45) -- clear, calm,
10 C. -- 8 swifts went into chimney at 8:30, 2 more in at 8:40, then 54+ at
9 p.m. -- Amanda Lavers, A. Pelletier, K. Nickerson, C. LeGall, Jim Wolford,
Ted Wolkowski.

May 24, 2007 - ROBIE TUFTS NATURE CENTRE AT DUSK: 87 TOTAL CHIMNEY SWIFTS

May 25, 2007 - Cheryl Rutledge of lower Falmouth called today to say that
last night at 9:15 p.m. there were literally HUNDREDS OF CHIMNEY SWIFTS at
her heritage farm-house (1792), attracted to her huge cememt chimney, which
is rectangular and contains six different flues from various parts of the
house -- one flue used for heating has a liner, and several to all of the
others are available for swifts to use -- however, Mrs. Rutledge is used to
having perhaps 20 swifts at a time and was quite surprised and overwhelmed
by the sight and sound (continuing from inside the house) of the hundreds
seen on the last two evenings, when the descents were at approximately 9:05
and 8:55 p.m., respectively.

ROBIE TUFTS NATURE CENTRE AT DUSK: 61+ TOTAL CHIMNEY SWIFTS -- Ted Wolkowski
observed from 8:10 to 9:20 p.m. (Sunset 8:46) -- 58 swifts entered chimney
at 9:00, 1 at 9:09, 2 at 9:12 -- clouded over, breeze from ese, 17 C.

May 26, 2007 - ROBIE TUFTS NATURE CENTRE AT DUSK: 23 TOTAL CHIMNEY SWIFT

2 at 9:34 -- MERLIN heard at 8:38, and a NIGHTHAWK flew past at 8:55 --
clear, warm, 20 C., breeze from west.

Ken McKenna told me that very recently he did a ³count² of 700+ CHIMNEY
SWIFTS at the Temperance St. School in New Glasgow!! This seemed to be the
one site in Nova Scotia last year that showed little or no effect from
Hurricane Wilma in the late autumn of 2005.

May 27, 2007 - ROBIE TUFTS NATURE CENTRE AT DUSK: 35+ TOTAL CHIMNEY SWIFTS
-- Ted Wolkowski and LD?? [Lynn Dixon?] observed from 8:25 to 9:20 p.m.
(Sunset 8:48) -- 8 swifts entered chimney at 8:39, 23 at 9:08 to 9:10, 3 at
9:13, 1 at 9:15 -- clouded over, breeze from south, 16 C.

May 28, 2007 - Cathy McKie phoned from Kentville, where a neighbor of hers
has an old residential CHIMNEY that has housed CHIMNEY SWIFTS in past years.
This year she noticed 3 SWIFTS there on May 13 for the first time this year,
and promised to phone me if and when the numbers change. The house is not
far from the Lindsay? Funeral Home along Commercial St.

ROBIE TUFTS NATURE CENTRE AT DUSK: 75+ TOTAL CHIMNEY SWIFTS -- most swifts
entered the chimney between 9:00 and 9:02 p.m. (Sunset 8:49) -- tonight the
air was so still that I could actually HEAR the swifts chittering as they
were swirling around the chimney shortly before they went in (I donıt often
hear them any more) -- Ted Wolkowski and I, plus a few liquor-store patrons,
observed from 8:10 to 9:20 p.m. -- 68 swifts entered chimney from 8:59 to
9:02, 2 at 9:04, 1 at 9:06, 2 at 9:08, 1 at 9:14 -- mostly clear, variable
low cloud, very calm, 13 C.
