HALIFAX FIELD NATURALISTS -- THURSDAY, JUNE 7 -- NOVA SCOTIA MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY -- SUMMER ST. -- HALIFAX -- 7:30 P.M.
LICHENS: Rob Cameron, an ecologist with the Protected Areas Branch of the Nova Scotia Department of Environment and Labour, has a special interest in and fascination with lichens. Lichens have a reputation for being difficult to identify. However, through the use of photographs, Rob will take us through a simplified field identification key that helps narrow down classifications quickly and easily. Rob will also touch on how lichens are used as environmental indicators, and introduce us to some of the world's rarest lichens living right here in Nova Scotia. There will be a follow-up field trip in October, where we can get some hands-on familiarity with members of this very large and diverse group of organisms.
