Our resident raven has at least two, possibly three, new mouths to feed.
Noises started to emerge from the nest a couple of days ago.

A red-breasted nuthatch is excavating a nest hole beside the driveway.
Robins are gathering nest materials, and juncos are behaving amorously,
no doubt establishing a nest somewhere underfoot. The junco nests are so
vulnerable. Last year, the one I was watching (four eggs) fell prey to a
cat or skunk or coon, maybe even a jay.

One hermit thrush visited and sang for a couple of days, but moved on.
We usually have two or three singing during the breeding season. No sign
yet of the ovenbirds, black-throated green warblers, vireos, or
hummingbirds that will hang around here all summer.
