Today I checked the nest boxes on my property. Only one of the owl boxes was
occupied, and that one held a Northern Flicker. I did not open the box or
even approach it any closer once I saw the bird. Just as interesting, this
is the first time we've had a flicker (female) use our suet feeder (for at
least three days now). I've got diagnostic shots of this, but nothing
publishable. Anyone know how sensitive this species is to nest checks?
Something tells me that this evidence does not constitute confirmed breeding
by Atlassing rules...I'll have to check that.

One of my two Barred Owl boxes had several centimetres of porcupine
droppings in it. Although we hear the Barreds, none have taken either of my
boxes yet.
