Hi there, Friends who have a cottage in East LaHave told me that last weekend, a pair of Red Crossbills visited their feeders and fed on the niger seed for over half an hour. This was something new for them there, and they were intrigued to see that the crossbills could extract the seeds from the narrow feeder. The birds needed to use their tongues a lot. They also reported seeing several Great Blue Herons along the LaHave River, and one evening a large owl came and sat in a tree by their deck. They thought it was a Great Horned Owl, but they couldn't actually see the ear tufts in the darkness. They were glad to see signs of returning wildlife - we're all looking for signs of spring. Cheers, Patricia L. Chalmers Halifax
