March 26, 2007 - Brenda, Bill, and Bob Thexton and I enjoyed wonderful close views from their dining room in Wolfville, of COURTSHIP ANTICS OF A COCK PHEASANT, in wonderful late afternoon light that really showed off the colours etc. of the cock. The cock was very attentive to a hen pheasant; she was accompanied by an immature male who was just acquiring his colours but apparently posed no threat to the strutting mature cock. As we watched, the mature male puffed out his body feathers and tipped his body and especially partly spread tail to show all his assets at the best angles, and he did that repeatedly for her and for us. At one point, she had walked away from him, and he ran at her and did a tight circle around her with the tipped tail etc., but this approach was clearly too aggressive for the liking of the hen and she scampered away and out of sight.
