Hi all, last Saturday a friend and I kayaked to Inner Sambro Island, recently purchased from a private owner by the province. It's a very interesting (and easy) place to visit, well-known to local boaters. There are at least two sheltered sandy beaches to land on. The island is a joy to explore on foot, as most of it is covered only by a typical coastal barren vegetation, with only a small grove of white spruce trees. Do any seabirds breed on the island? I've received only a highly improbable report of "skua/black gull." More likely a not-unexpected sighting of immature herring gull or greater black-backed gull.. Dusan Soudek
