Hi All
This time of year I spread corn on the ground for the
various birds. Quite a few small birds come for a
snack but bigger birds also.
There are 17 ducks - normal count. 12 Mallards, 4
blacks, and an unmated black-mallard cross. A good
looking drake but none of the hens seem interested.
They come twice a day - sit around til everyone is
there. At some sort of a signal they all run to the
feed, and all eat at once. A hugh scabble follows -
drakes and hens chasing and pecking at each other. As
they get filled they go sit in an open area one at a
time. After the last one is full they all jump up and
of somewhere. Amazing how organized it all is.
There are a few crows also and when they are there the
pheasants will come out and eat. Not many pheasants -
only 2 males as far as I can see but they will never
eat alone - only with the crows or ducks. They don't
like the ducks fighting so they will only grab a bite
when the ducks are there.
There is also a dove with a white tail. must have
stuck it in a batch of bleach.
Spring is here so soon more birds will arrive.
Enjoy the spring
Paul
