As mentioned by Jim, Eagles don't usually hunt live prey in winter but =
exceptions do occur as I discovered yesterday. Arriving at Sullivan's =
Pond I noticed that there were no gulls in sight and quickly discovered =
why. An eagle was on the ice, and I had barely got my car parked when it =
took flight with its prey of what appeared to be a gull. It took its =
meal over to Lake Banook. This photo might not be for everyone (photo =
#46):http://bernieb.smugmug.com/gallery/916397/3/44269649/Medium =
Considering how far gulls can spot eagles in the distance, one would =
think an eagle would never be able to capture one.

A peregrine flew by in the area at a slower pace than usual, slow =
enough to capture a backlit pic (photo #47):

In Lower Sackville, while looking for the Mandarin Duck escapee, my =
sister Anita and I came across this muskcrat mostly out of the water for =
a change(photo #48):

Back at Sullivan's Pond, here is a disturbing photo of a Herring Gull =
that appears to be coated with an oily substance, likely picked up from =
elsewhere (photo #49):

And finally, here are two photos (#'s 50 and #51) of a large gull, what =
might be a hybrid, between a Glaucous Gull and a Herring Gull...a so =
called "Nelson's Gull":
