Had a quick trip to Port George this afternoon (about 2 hrs before high tide). Quite windy and water very choppy so extremely difficult to identify most water birds. - 1 Common Murre (surprised since most (all?) being reported have been Thick-billed). At least 3 other alcids were doing their favorite trick.........flying a short distance then diving immediately when they landed. No idea as to species. - Surf & White-winged Scoters, Red-breasted Mergansers, Eiders, Long-tailed Ducks, possibly a few Red-necked Grebes. Lucky to id one of each....impossible to count them. - 1 Adult Bald Eagle - 1 fem. Harlequin - Did not see any Purple Sandpipers (nor loons!). On north-south road leading to Port George a flock of about 125 Snow Buntings. Mixed in with them were a few Longspurs and Larks. They were feeding in a partially bare field that had been turned over. I noted many clambering over the snow patches, presumably searching for snow fleas or similar delicacies. Angus
