I noticed that there were no birds moving around our feeders this
morning, and when I looked around, there was "our" juv. plumaged
Cooper's Hawk sitting on a poplar limb, at the far end of the
property, posing nicely. I was able to note the overall large size and
elongated shape, rather squared off shape to the head, the short outer
tail feathers, the fine streaking on the underparts, and the
unstreaked belly, once I got the scope onto it. I took some digiscoped
pics, but because of the distance and the fact that it was through a
window, they probably won't be as clear as those from Dec. After it
disappeared, suddenly about 20 Blue Jays appeared as if out of
nowhere.
