Hi Ian, =0AThanks for having a look. Unfortunately, these pictures were th=
e only ones that showed the gull well enough. =0ABernard - It was not REALL=
Y close to the moose. Probably about 2kms away. =0AThanks again, =0AJennif=

Bay birds today=0A=0AHi Jennifer et al.:=0A=0AYour gull photos pose a fine =
puzzle. They're certainly not Black-legged=0AKittiwake and, although you m=
ention that it was darker gray (back and upper=0Awing presumably) than a He=
rring Gull, they're not good for Laughing Gull=0Aeither. The latter would n=
ever have a white window on the outer primaries=0A(quite large on P10 - the=
outer, and smaler on P9). The bird reminds me at a=0Aglance of an adult h=
ybrid Ring-billed and Black-headed Gull that Eric =0AMills and=0AI saw in s=
ummer 2005 at Stepheenville Crossing, NL. That bird had reddish legs=0Aand =
bill, an incomplete dark gray hood (with chin and upper throat remaining=0A=
white), a basically Ring-billed wing pattern (without a white upper wing=0A=
panel), but with less extensive white windows than a Ring-billed. This=0Ahy=
bridization has also been invoked for a bird that turned up some months ago=
=0Ain New York.=0A=0AStill, without more photos (did you get any more?) one=
 couldn't be conclusive=0Aabout the bird.=0A=0AQuoting Jennifer LeBlanc <du=
cksarefun@yahoo.com>:=0A=0A> While in Cow Bay today watching surfers we saw=
Common Eiders, White =0A> Winged Scoters (a large flock, but I couldn't co=
unt them - I didn't =0A> have my binoculars), unknown alcids (~5), Herring =
and BB gulls and =0A> two gulls that I don't feel confident in identifying =
on my own. The =0A> links below are pictures of the birds. The back was=
darker grey =0A> than a Herring Gull and they were much smaller than a HER=
G. The legs =0A> were black, although I thought there was a reddish tint. =
Again, it =0A> was hard to tell without binoculars. We were thinking Bla=
ck Legged =0A> Kittiwake, but I also considered Laughing Gull. If someone =
could =0A> identify it, could you let me know? Thanks!=0A>=0A> http://www.=
