Cheers from Jim ---------- From: Joan Czapalay <joancz@ns.sympatico.ca> Date: Mon, 18 Dec 2006 19:31:26 -0400 To: Jim Wolford <jimwolford@eastlink.ca> Cc: "Joan A. Czapalay" <joancz@ns.sympatico.ca> Subject: DecemberBirds and Flowers/ Barrington and CSI Hi Jim- Thought you would be interested, and perhaps will forward to naturens for me. Cheers, Joan This year the Christmas Bird Count in Barrington and Cape Sable Island was the mildest in my memory. Betty June and Sid Smith have done a count in the area more years than I, and may have had other mild weather count days. Thank you, Murray, for organixzing a great day for all. And thank you to Azor Vienneau and Dave Currie for coming from Halifax to help, and to Gary Hartlan from Liverpool, James Hirtle and Dorothy Poole from Lunenburg County, and all our So West Nova Birders. The new Library was a great location to hold the count. Lillian Perry, Aileen Smith and I walked the tracks and side roads from Tim Horton's to Temple Church and the birds were scarce compared to other years. Aileen and I birded CSI on Sunday for the White winged Dove ( at Joe Symonds feeders as you start down the road to Stoney Island) and Harlequin Ducks (still around the rocks just off the Hawk). We couldn't find the Redhead at Dan'l's Head, but there were lots of shorebirds at the Hawk. Murray will probably post the complete list. Plant notes: At Joe Symonds the Primroses were in full bloom, and along the tracks the Pussy Willows were out and Mayflowers were well in bud, with a few showing white. It looks like spring! The children long for snow, but I love it like this. Happy Holidays to all on naturens. Joan Joan A.
