The solar constant is defined at a distance from the Sun of 1 A.U. which is the semi-major axis of the Earth's orbit, so in away it is already averaged for the variation of the Earth's distance from the Sun over one year. If there is one thing scientists dislike is a "variable" constant! ;-) Pat ======================================================================== == Patrick Kelly Director of Computer Facilities ======================================================================== == Faculty of Architecture and Planning Dalhousie University ======================================================================== == PO Box 1000 Stn Central 5410 Spring Garden Road Halifax, Nova Scotia B3J 2X4 Halifax, Nova Scotia B3J 2X4 Canada Canada ======================================================================== == Phone:(902) 494-3294 FAX:(902) 423-6672 E-mail:patrick.kelly@dal.ca ======================================================================== == --Apple-Mail-2--961210273 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Type: text/enriched; charset=US-ASCII <excerpt> QUESTION: Should not the solar constant be referenced to mean d^2 where d is the distance from earth to the sun ?
