Dec. 15, 2006 - I checked the main road across the Grand Pre dykelands, and
the immature PEREGRINE FALCON was sitting on the top of a power pole about
half-way across the łreclaimed˛ marshland. I was able to view it closely
with my scope from inside the car. Its moustache marks are very heavy and
bold on this very dark bird, very dark brown on its back and heavily
streaked underneath, with a blue-gray cere. The heavy moustaches etc.
suggest this immature is of the łanatum˛ race, what Cyril Coldwell used to
call a łDuck Hawk˛ -- this was the most heavily endangered race of
peregrine.

I also saw a first-year NORTHERN HARRIER, a large female, harrying at low
altitude over the fields not far from the peregrine.
