The Redwing found yesterday by Dorothy Poole was re-found this morning at 9:45 at a slightly different location, house #33 on the Brooklyn Shore Road, opposite Brooklyn Baptist Church and just a little north of the marina park where it was seen yesterday. Brooklyn is just east of Liverpool, along the Mersey River. The Redwing seems to be accompanying a large flock of birds, including Starlings, Grackles, Blue Jays, a Baltimore Oriole, Bohemian Waxwing, Evening Grosbeaks, etc. etc. We watched it on the ground and in the trees around the excellent feeders (visible from the road - no need to go closer) at #33, also feeding with the oriole in a holly tree. The owners of #33, Richard and Sandra Gardiner have begun to put out apples to encourage the Redwing to stay. They welcome birders, but I do suggest (as above), keeping some distance from the feeders; this will be a very popular bird, and although it is not excessively shy, it would be a shame to scare it off by trying to get too close. We (Blake Maybank, Ian McLaren and I) had stunning views by waiting patiently by the road. Definitely a CMF! This is only the second record of Redwing in Nova Scotia. The first was on Sable Island, thus inaccessible to birders. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ Eric L.
