1 Dec. 2006

Pat McKay and I wandered the eastern mainland, and here were some of
our Winter highlights:

[Note: the winter listing web page is:
   http://www3.ns.sympatico.ca/maybank/other/nswinter.htm ]

Ruby-throated Hummingbird - the bird at Ballantyne's Cove
Double-crested and Great Cormorants - Ballantyne's Cove
+++ Bonaparte's Gulls - South Lake and Ogden's Pond
50 Snow Buntings - Ogden's Pond
Surf & White-winged Scoters in George's Bay
4 Dickcissels - Canso Town (weather kept other passerines at bay)
50+ Iceland Gulls and a first-winter Lesser Black-backed Gull at Mulgrave.
100+ immature Northern Gannets at the Canso Causeway.
8 Horned Grebes at Dort's Cove

The following wildflowers were in bloom:

Tansy
Yarrow
Red Clover
Daisy
Aster
Hawkweed

A rewarding, fun day, although windy, wet, and WARM!

Cheers,
