I found one in Sibley's - the only = bird in the book that resembled the one in my yard. Actually, I should = have guessed already because I had a bird like it in the fall a year or = two ago. This one had iridescence on the head and on the wings but the = back was a dull black. I assume this means the bird was in the process = of moulting and changing from adolesence to maturity. As I remember the = one of a couple of years ago the eyes were beginning to change as well, = about half way between black and yellow. This one has pure black eyes. I filled all my feeders late yesterday - this morning when I = got up every seed was gone. I think I must have had a large flock of = grackles visiting me early this morning.
