David Walmark and I were out birdwatching for a spell today. We took a
short walk along the Blockhouse Trail, which is part of the Dynamite Trail
while I was getting some car work done. Anyhow, along the trail heading
back towards Bridgewater and not far from the Blockhouse intersection we had
a clay-colored sparrow. This bird was hanging in shrubbery along the edge
of a marshy area and just before the yeild sign along the trail. We saw it
after further along towards Bridgewater also. Twenty-two redwinged
blackbirds were also late in this area.

Two Common Goldeneye females were in the Harbour at Mahone Bay.

We found an American Coot which was at the far end of Kingsburg Pond, in
Kingsburg.

There is a large movement of robins moving through today.

Great Blue Herons are still around in decent numbers with groups of one to
three in various areas.

I took a walk out to Conrads Island, Rose Bay, Lunenburg Co., after dropping
David off. Of note were 16 green-winged teal. The past seven or so years
it would be hard to find a teal in this area by now. From personal
observations I believe that numbers of this bird passing through this fall
are higher than I have seen in the past 10-15 years. Any other comments on
this would be interesting. Has anyone else noticed a similar trend?

Also of note at Conrads Island were three Bonaparte Gulls, two Lapland
Longspurs, five black-bellied plovers, and three greater yellowlegs.
Yellow-rumped warblers were about 17. The largest concentration of morning
doves I have ever seen was present today at this location. There were
roughly 159. One group alone that I put up had over 100 birds in it. I
therefore think my estimate is on the low end.
