29 October 2006
Burn's Point, Peggy's Cove Protected Area, HRM

We drove to Burns Point (west of West Dover) to enjoy the spectacular
surf, and despite (because of?) the gales, we had a few interesting
sightings. As might be expected there were hundreds of gannets
offshore, but in the lee of the islands that protect Burns Point
there were 7 Harlequin Ducks and 6 Red-necked Grebes.

In addition there were Snow Buntings, Horned Larks, and Lapland
Longspurs scrounging seeds along the gravel road leading to Burns Point.

All told I think we had a better show than the hordes of people
wave-watching at Peggy's Cove.

Cheers,
