Oct. 23, 2006 - The following Wolfville/Windsor/Grand-Pre bird sightings will overlap and supplement those of Richard Stern and Luke DeCicco over the past couple of days. Wolfville Harbour at high tide: 1 HUDSONIAN GODWIT, 25 GREATER YELLOWLEGS. Windsor sewage ponds at high tide: 8 RED KNOTS, 32 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, no yellowlegs seen, 1 juvenile DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANT, a m/f pair of AM. WIGEONS, 5 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 20+ RING-BILLED GULLS, numerous herring gulls, a few great black-backed gulls, a few mallards, numerous Am. black ducks, 20 rock pigeons. Along the main dyke east from Wolfville Harbour at 5 p.m., at the reddish building that Luke described (east of sewage ponds), I found Luke and ?, Sheila McCurdy and David Dermott, and Wayne Neily, all there as was I for the NORTHERN WHEATEAR. All of us got good looks at it as it ranged between the building and along the dyke toward the sewage ponds. It perched on rocks, often high rocks, and foraged on the ground on the seaward side of the dyke. The only other small bird seen by me was a single SAVANNAH SPARROW. Port Williams sewage ponds in late afternoon: nothing special, just about 12+ mallards and 4 Am. black ducks. At our feeders in Wolfville this morning, a WHITE-BREASTED NUTHATCH.
