There were two Turkey Vultures soaring together over the North Mountain at
Mount Hanley this morning. They stayed in sight for several minutes and were
often flying quite low down as if keenly interested in something on the
ground.

At the small park at Cottage Cove the reef was only partly visible and
vanishing quickly as the tide flooded in. A single Male Harlequin Duck was
sitting on the exposed part of the reef, preening. It then entered the water
on the protected side and proceeded to bathe, stretch and primp. It was very
colourful in the bright sun. A second Harlequin male was on the rocky area
near the lighthouse in Port George, it also seemed to be preoccupied with
preening. It is good to see them back after their summer visits to the
breeding grounds.

There were at least 7 Grey Seals in the water near the reef. Also noted
along this stretch were 6 Red Necked Grebes, 4 Common Loons, 5 White Winged
Scoters and 23 Common Eiders - surprisingly small numbers.
