Birds are often scare on this windy coastal barren but when they do turn up they are interesting. This morning's encounter was with a single Lapland Longspur. According to Robie W. Tufts, Birds of Nova Scotia, Sept 10 is the earliest record for a return from the northern breeding grounds but he didn't say where this occurred. This is the fifth time I've met Lapland Longspurs on this coastal barren in our calendar summer, four times previously before Sept 10, including twice in mid August, so maybe there's another story here. I've posted seven photos, the last two in this series are today's Lapland Longspur.
