Hi Carl,

What ... a green June Bug .... ??? ;-> There are green species of
scarabs, such as Chrysina:

http://www.lam.mus.ca.us/research/entomology/coleoptera/scarabs/art8.jpg

However, none of these are found even remotely close to the Maritime
Provinces. None of our native scarabs are at all green.

Chlaenius sericeus sericeus (Forster) is a very green ground beetle,
which is, however, somewhat smaller (12-16 mm) and more flattened
than a June Bug (17-23 mm).

5D=21430.jpg%3AChlaenius+%28Chlaenius%29+sericeus+sericeus

Another possibility is one of the large predaceous diving beetles in
the genus Dytiscus:

Dytiscus verticalis Say
Dytiscus harrisii Kirby
Dytiscus dauricus Gebler

Some individuals of which have a pronounced greenish cast to their
colouration, for instance:

http://homepage1.nifty.com/keichin/jpg/tadagenmo9.jpg
http://homepage1.nifty.com/keichin/jpg/tadagenmo2.jpg

These are large aquatic beetles, but they do fly very well and are
sometimes found crawling about in various terrestrial situations.
They are even larger (30-36 mm) than a June Bug (17-23 mm), and are
distinctly flattened as compared to a June Bug.

One other very remote possibility would be a Calosoma scrutator
(Fabricius), a large predaceous ground beetle, however there is only
one record of this species in Nova Scotia. Its possible that it could
be a windblown stray from New England, but this would be almost as
unlikely as a specimen of Chrysina.

Do any of these look like possibilities?

There are many other green beetles in Nova Scotia but most others are
much smaller than a June Bug,

Cheers!

Chris
