Hi all
Today ( Sept. 9) at high tide at Big I., Pictou Co., I saw a =
BUFF-BREASTED SAND[PIPER. This is the first time I have seen this =
shorebird in Pictou Co. and I know of only one other observation on =
Sept. 15, 1968 at Caribou I. ( Holdway). The bird was observed along =
the Strait side of causeway in the vicinity of the wooden poles =
(reminant breakwater). There were a about 100 shorebirds roosting here =
at high tide and the Buff-breasted was tending to favour the upper part =
of the beach above the wrack. Birding was not bad at Big I. area today =
with 12 species of warbler. There were about 15 AMERICAN PIPITS along =
the causeway near areas where the causeway is reinforced with rocks. A =
RED-NECKED GREBE was seen ofshore. Other notables were 370 BONAPARTE'S =
GULL, 25-30 COMMON TERNS, and 2 LEAST FLYCATCHERS. I saw 14 species of =
shorebird, but I heard of 3 other species obsrrved by the Brennans or =
Ann Doull.=20

cheers
    Ken
