We have a large number of specimens of Eristalis tenax at the Museum
and they exhibit quite a bit of variation in colouring. Its the only
large Eristalis that we have specimens from in NS that is comparable
to that pictured in Angus' photo. On the other hand, there is no
guarantee that all the specimens we have at the Museum are correctly
identified, so it is possible that there is more than one species
amongst the material.

Cheers!

Chris
