38TH ANNUAL MEETING:

Mount Allison University, Sackville, New Brunswick

November 7-9th, 2001.

 

Conference Information

Posters/Presentations:

Posters will be on display throughout the conference. An agenda including posters and presentations will be provided prior to the annual meeting. Please notify Graham Forbes (506-453-4929 or Forbes@unb.ca) and send a copy of your abstract in Microsoft Word format (.doc) if you wish to participate.

Registration:

Registration fee will be $25.00. Registration fee includes coffee and refreshments served during scheduled breaks.

Accommodations:

A block of 25 rooms has been reserved at the Coastal Inn in Sackville (506) 536-0000. As they become booked additional reservations will be set aside. Rooms are $65.00 + taxes per night for single or double occupancy. Students can sleep up to 4 per room with no additional cost. Meetings will be held at the Mount Allison campus in Tweedie Hall.

Banquet:

Tickets for the banquet will be $20.00.

 

Silent Auction:

During the banquet, there will be a silent auction and raffle to raise funds for our David Cartwright Memorial Scholarship at UNB. Any and all items for this auction would be greatly appreciated. Think of ideas early and bring them with you when you come.

Meals:

Participants are responsible for their own meals. There is a restaurant at the Coastal Inn or explore Sackville’s finest.

Awards:

The Society offers a $100.00 award for the best student presentation.

 

ASFWB Merit Award:

Nominations for the ASFWB Merit award are now open. More information about this award is available on our website (http://www.chebucto.ns.ca/Environment/ASFWB).

 

Field Trips:

Sign up early for the tour of Cape Jourmain National Wildlife Area. The tour will take place during the afternoon on Friday, Nov. 9th following the meeting. Enjoy the view within a coastal wetland environment along the Northumberland Straight. Also take advantage of the opportunity to experience the Tantramar Dykelands first hand and learn about the natural history of the region.

 

Getting to Sackville:

Sackville is located along the Trans-Canada Highway between Amherst, NS and Moncton, NB. If you are travelling from out of province once you cross the border just cross the Tantramar Dykelands and keep your eyes peeled, it is approximately 10 km from the NS border.

 

Travel Subsidies:

The Society tries to provide some financial assistance to students whenever possible. Students presenting papers or students at the Masters level pursuing a career in fish or wildlife and who attended the meeting may submit their expenses to the Society for consideration. The amount of subsidy will depend upon the number of students requesting assistance and the amount of money available. Subsidies rarely exceed $100.00.
