Having problems with email?
Are you getting unwanted email? Is someone harrasing you? Are you
involved in an email dispute?
Before you send a complaint to the other party's Internet Service Provider
(ISP)
take a moment to evaluate the situation.
CCN is not an arbitrator of personal matters. We can't get involved in
weighing the relative merits of one person's arguments over another's.
Simply deleting email without responding usually brings email problems to
an end. This is usually CCN's advice.
If you are reporting an email or newsgroup posting made by a Chebucto
user in violation of the terms of our
User Agreement,
(or if you are making a complaint to another Internet Service Provider
about a user of theirs), you will need to send a copy of the message or
posting with its full headers intact. Do not edit them in any way.
Email and newsreader programs typically show only a brief header, usually
a timestamp, who the message is to and from, and the subject, like this:
Subject: Email headers
Date: Fri, 1 Dec 2000 15:34:40 -0400 (AST)
From: "John K. Doe" <zy998@chebucto.ns.ca>
To: Millicent Fakename <zz999@chebucto.ns.ca>
A complete header would look something like this:
Received: from zy998@localhost by halifax.chebucto.ns.ca id <36703-769>;
Fri, 1 Dec 2000 15:34:40 -0400
Date: Fri, 1 Dec 2000 15:34:40 -0400 (AST)
Sender: zy998@chebucto.ns.ca
From: "John K. Doe" <zy998@chebucto.ns.ca>
To: Millicent Fakename <zz999@chebucto.ns.ca>
Subject: Email headers
Message-ID:
<Pine.GSO.3.95.iB1.0.011201153419.13368A-100000@halifax.chebucto.ns.ca>
MIME-Version: 1.0
Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII
Return-Path: <zy998@chebucto.ns.ca>
Consult your mail or newsreader program's help
documentation for how to display the full headers of a message. Users of
the Pine email program on Chebucto's text-based interface can find
information on this
here.
