The Overview Map
North is at the top.
Halifax Harbour is prominent with Dartmouth on the right and
part of the Halifax Peninsula, as seen at the lower left.
The main routes to our location through Dartmouth are via
Highway #118/Woodland Avenue, Highway #7/Windmill
Road, or Highway #7/Alderney Drive. When traveling
from Halifax, use the Macdonald or MacKay toll bridges.
The Close-Up Map
North is at the top.
Halifax is across The Macdonald
Bridge and out of frame to the left.
We are located very nearly under that bridge on
the Dartmouth side at 80 Fairbanks Street in a
metal-sided, two-tone, tan/brown-coloured building.

FROM HALIFAX via the MacKay Bridge (Cash or MACPASS Required) |
STREET SYNOPSIS:Travel across the bridge in the right-hand lane. At the toll plaza, use the far-right cash lane ($1.25 -- dollar-coin and/or quarter(s) only), or the second-from-the-right MACPASS lane. Take the Princess Margaret Boulevard exit immediately after leaving the toll lane. At the bottom of the S-curved exit ramp, turn left, then cross the railway tracks and approach a set of lights. (U-Haul will be diagonally across from you to the left.)
At the lights, turn right onto Windmill Road and drive almost the entire remaining length of Windmill to where you are about to pass under the Macdonald Bridge. A long chain-link fence will have been on your right for four or five blocks. Do not drive under the bridge! Instead, turn right onto Lyle Street between the end of the fence and the bridge supports.
Take your first left onto Fairbanks Street. On the left will then be a grassy lot, two houses and our location. It is a metal-sided, two-tone, tan/brown-coloured building (#80). Enter the central door and go left.
STREET SYNOPSIS:(Highway #102): About ten minutes past The Stanfield International Airport, bear left to take Highway #118 to Dartmouth. Follow the signs to Downtown Dartmouth making no exits. The 118 leads directly into central Dartmouth.
You will pass a retail business park called Dartmouth Crossing. It will be on your right. If on a parallel roadway between you and the park you notice a "Halifax/Dartmouth" sign, ignore it -- you are indeed already on the correct highway.
Up a hill and through a set of lights at Mic Mac Boulevard / Lancaster Drive, you will enter a 50 km/h zone. This is Woodland Avenue. At the bottom of Woodland Avenue are a set of lights. (An Irving gas station will be on your right.)
Go left at these lights onto Victoria Road, and then a right at the next set of lights onto Boland Road. Turn left at the following set of lights onto Wyse Road. Take your third right onto Faulkner Street, and at the bottom of the hill where Faulkner begins, turn left onto Windmill Road.
Take your first right onto Lyle Street between the end of a chain-link fence and some concrete bridge supports. Now take the first left onto Fairbanks Street. Macdonald Bridge Route:
(Cash or MACPASS Required) |
STREET SYNOPSIS:(Highway #103): Take Exit #2 to St. Margaret's Bay Road (Route #3). Turn right at the bottom of the ramp and move into the left lane. Go through the lights and curve left. Travel along the Bay Road within a wooded area then downhill through a residential section. This leads to the Armdale Traffic Circle. Follow the lanes to Chebucto Road and exit onto Chebucto.
If you miss the exit, are in the wrong lane, or find traffic circles to be confusing, simply stay in the circle and go around as many times as required in order to plan your move into the correct lane and choosing of the correct exit.
Once on Chebucto Road, use the right lane to travel under a railway overpass, then move into the lanes that will take you straight through two widely-separated sets of traffic lights. After this, switch to the left lane, and a few blocks later just before Oxford street, bear left onto North Street toward the Macdonald Bridge. A sign for the bridge is seen at that intersection on your left. Continue through five sets of traffic lights almost to the beginning of North and onto The Macdonald Bridge. Use its right-hand lane.
On the Dartmouth side, take the far right toll lane with a MACPASS, or the second-from-the-right cash lane ($1.25 -- dollar-coin and/or quarter(s) only). Now turn right onto Wyse Road. Keep in the right-hand (curb) lane. 200 metres down Wyse Road pass through a set of traffic lights and curve right to another set of lights. Turn right at these lights onto Windmill Road.
From there, take your second or third left onto Mott Street or Best Street. Turn at the next corner onto Fairbanks Street. We are on the first or second block on the right-hand side in a metal-sided, two-tone, tan/brown-coloured building (#80). Enter the central door and go left.
MacKay Bridge Route:
(Cash or MACPASS Required) |
STREET SYNOPSIS:(Highway #103): Take Exit #1B onto Highway #102 South heading toward Halifax. Change into the left lane, noting farther on the sign for Dartmouth above this lane. Making no exits, continue down a lengthy slope into the city whereupon you will be deposited onto Bayers Road. Go through the first set of traffic lights encountered. These are at Romans Avenue. Proceed up a long hill, and at its top, go through two sets of closely-spaced traffic lights at the Halifax Shopping Centre, which is off to the right.
As you near the following set of lights, move into the far-left lane. On your right there will be the Anglican Church of the Apostles, and a Canadian Tire Gas Bar diagonally across the intersection. Take a left here onto Connaught Avenue. Change into the right lane and eventually travel up the steep hill at the end of Connaught. Turning left from the center lane at this intersection onto Windsor Street aligns you with its right lane. Around a curve and down a hill takes you to a set of lights. Drive straight through and remain in the right lane. This leads to the MacKay Bridge approach.
After passing the Robie Street exit, despite the sign that points at the lane on your right as going to Dartmouth, so will your lane. However, waiting until you are actually approaching the bridge, or even on the bridge itself, will allow the traffic to sort itself out before you make the change to that lane. So, at your leisure, move into the right lane. This will take you to the desired toll lanes on the Dartmouth side.
At the toll plaza, use the far-right cash lane ($1.25 -- dollar-coin and/or quarter(s) only), or use the second-from-the-right MACPASS lane. Take the Princess Margaret Boulevard exit immediately after leaving the toll lane. At the bottom of an S-curved ramp, turn left, then cross the railway tracks and approach a set of lights. (U-Haul will be diagonally across from you to the left.)
At these lights, take a right onto Windmill Road and drive almost the entire remaining length of Windmill to where you are about to pass under the Macdonald Bridge.
STREET SYNOPSIS:From the Sunnyside Area, take Dartmouth Road (Highway #7) next to the Chickenburger Restaurant. After a long hill climb, you will enter a divided highway which becomes Windmill Road in Dartmouth. The Burnside Industrial Park will be on your left. Move into the far right lane and drive through three sets of lights. As you approach a fourth set near a Ford car dealership on the left, the road splits: On your left, two lanes go up a hill toward the MacKay Bridge approach interchange, while one lane curves to the right, exits, and continues to follow Windmill Road.
Bear right onto Windmill Road just before these lights and drive almost the entire remaining length of Windmill to where you are about to pass under the Macdonald Bridge.
STREET SYNOPSIS:(Highway #101): Travel the 101 almost to Bedford and take the exit to Dartmouth (Highway #7). You will eventually enter Dartmouth on Windmill Road with the Burnside Industrial Park on your left. Drive through three sets of lights. As you approach a fourth set near a car dealership, the road splits: On your left, two lanes go up a hill towards the MacKay Bridge approach interchange, while one lane curves to the right, exits, and continues to follow Windmill Road.
Bear right onto Windmill Road just before the lights and drive almost the entire remaining length of Windmill to where you are about to pass under the Macdonald Bridge.
STREET SYNOPSIS:Follow Pleasant Street through Woodside heading into Dartmouth. You will pass the Dartmouth General Hospital on your right and later an Ultramar gas station, also on the right. After driving downward through a residential area, eventually you will arrive at the next set of traffic lights. These are at an intersection known as "Five Corners". Change to the left lane and turn diagonally left onto Portland Street going down a short hill.
Drive through the following set of lights and through a retail business section to arrive at Portland Street's beginning. Take a right at the lights onto Alderney Drive and move into the left lane. Drive through the next two sets of lights and up the hill. At the top where there is another set of traffic lights, Alderney Drive becomes Windmill Road. As an identifying landmark at this point, look diagonally to your right and away from you; in the near distance is a glass-faced office tower; this is part of the Hilton DoubleTree Hotel.
After driving straight through this intersection, take your second or third left onto Mott Street or Best Street. Turn at the next corner onto Fairbanks Street. We are on the first or second block on the right-hand side in a metal-sided, two-tone, tan/brown-coloured building (#80). Enter the central door and go left.
STREET SYNOPSIS:(Highway #7/#107): Follow Highway #7/#107 to The Forest Hills Parkway. There is a Sobey's grocery store on your left and traffic lights at this intersection. Drive straight through; this road now continues as Highway #7 and is part of Main Street. Move to the right lane. Landmarks next seen along this route are a Tim Horton's Coffee Shop on the right, and later, a community college on a low hill, and then an Esso gas station, both on your left.
Continue all the way to the beginning of Main Street which is just past a PetroCan gas station seen on your right at Major Street. There is also a set of lights here at Main & Major.
Now proceed up a short rise beside the PetroCan and take the Prince Albert Road exit to the right. At the bottom of this exit, curve left to the traffic lights. There are two left-turning lanes at these lights; select the right-hand one. Turn left, to arrive in the right-hand lane on Braemar Drive.
After immediately crossing over an underpass and approaching another set of lights, move to the right into an additional lane forming on your right just before those lights. (An Atlantic Superstore will be diagonally left of you at this point.) Go through both this set of lights and the next set at the entrance to the Superstore. The street then curves right and you are now on Prince Albert Road. Remain in the right lane.
Travel along the lake seen on your right and go through two sets of lights -- one at Hawthorne Street and the other at Maple Street. You are now on Ochterloney Street. (Prince Albert Road curved away from your path a block father back at an Esso Station, and your route became Ochterloney Street.)
The next set of traffic lights are at the beginning of Ochterloney where you will be between two office towers. At this point, turn right onto Alderney. Move into the left lane. Up a hill at the next set of lights, Alderney becomes Windmill Road. Diagonally away from you in the right, near distance is a glass-faced office tower; this is part of the Hilton DoubleTree Hotel.
Go straight through those lights and take your second or third left (Mott Street or Best Street). Turn right at the next corner onto Fairbanks Street. We are on the first or second block on the right-hand side in a metal-sided, two-tone, tan/brown-coloured building (#80). Enter the central door and go left.
ALTERNATE ROUTE:
(This is longer but it will eliminate
some of your travel through the city.)
STREET SYNOPSIS:(Highway #107): Follow the 107 to the Forest Hills Parkway. There is a Sobey's grocery store on your left at this intersection. Turn right at the traffic lights to maintain your travel on the 107. Go to near the end of the 107 where it crosses over an underpass. The highway splits. You will bear left to exit South onto Highway #118. The 118 leads into central Dartmouth.
You will pass a retail business park called Dartmouth Crossing. It will be on your right. If on a parallel roadway between you and the park you notice a "Halifax/Dartmouth" sign, ignore it -- you are indeed already on the correct highway.
Eventually at the top of a long hill you will enter a 50 km/h zone after a set of lights at Mic Mac Boulevard/Lancaster. At this point you will be on Woodland Avenue. At the bottom of Woodland Avenue are a set of lights. (An Irving gas station will be on your right.)
Take a left at these lights onto Victoria Road, and then a right at the next set of lights onto Boland Road. Turn left at the following traffic lights onto Wyse Road. Take your third right onto Faulkner Street and at the bottom of the hill, go left onto Windmill Road.
Take your first right onto Lyle Street between the end of a chain-link fence and some concrete bridge supports. Now take the first left onto Fairbanks Street. On your left will be a grassy lot, two houses and our location. It is a metal-sided, two-tone, tan/brown-coloured building (#80). Enter the central door and go left.
