With a long indented and busy coastline, Nova Scotia has many lighthouses, including the Sambro Island light, the oldest operating lighthouse in North America.
Their future is in doubt as new navigation technology and government cuts mean many of these historic structures may be closed and possibly demolished.
I belong to the Nova Scotia Lighthouse Preservation Society which is working to save these lighthouses and gather information about them. They have a super website with tons of pictures, histories and lists of almost every light in the province.
