Privateer Ship Foudroyant - 1758
Sharing the name of a later ship that brought fame to Horatio Nelson, this
privateer ship was one of the largest based in Canadian waters. (Most
privateer vessels were around 100 tons or smaller.) She may have been a captured French
vessel whose English owners retained her fine warlike name. Little more
has been uncovered about her.
