There is also the ongoing debate about when the new millennium
starts. Technically, the party should start the night of December
31, 2000, since the makers of the Gregorian calendar did not include a
year “0” , skipping straight from 1 BC to 1 AD. Celebrants 100 years
ago encountered this same dilemma. Intent on heralding the arrival
of the new century, people held “parties of the century” on December 31,
1899, and then repeated the fun a year later.
